Pod vs cartridge

Pods click in. Carts screw on. The real difference is which battery you are locked into.

1 brand

Most pods only fit the battery system made for them. A 510 cart fits almost any 510 battery.

The basics

Two ways to hold the oil

A 510 cartridge uses a universal screw thread. Any 510 battery, from any company, will run it. That is why carts are the most common vape format in California dispensaries.

A pod is a cartridge built for one specific battery. It snaps or clicks into place, usually with a magnet or a tight fit, and only that brand's battery (or a compatible system) will run it. In exchange you get a sleeker device and a battery tuned to that pod.

The oil can be the same in both: distillate, live resin or rosin. Read the label to see what is inside.

Three questions to ask first

What battery do you own?If it is a 510 battery, buy carts. If it is a pod battery, buy pods made for it.
Starting from zero?Ask the budtender which battery fits the pods you want, or start with an all-in-one.
Leaks or clogs?Store pods and carts upright, keep them out of hot cars, and warm a clogged one gently before pulling.
StrengthSame oil, same strength. Check the THC on the label and take small draws.

Good questions

Quick answers

Can I use a pod on a 510 battery?

Usually not. Pods are made for their own battery system. A 510 battery runs 510 cartridges.

Are pods better than carts?

Neither is better. Pods are compact and simple if you own the matching battery. Carts give you more choice of brands and batteries.

Is the oil in pods different?

No. Pods and carts can hold the same distillate, live resin or rosin. The label tells you which.

Why is my pod not hitting?

Check that the battery is charged, the pod is seated fully and the contacts are clean. A cold or thick oil can also clog; let it warm up.
