Things to check on the box before you buy any vape.

First choice

All-in-one or cartridge?

An all-in-one (sometimes called a disposable) has the oil and battery in one sealed piece. You open the box and pull. A 510 cartridge screws onto a separate battery that you own and recharge.

All-in-ones win on simplicity and on never being stuck with a dead battery that does not match. Cartridges win if you already own a battery you like and want to swap oils between sessions.

Simplicity on the left, flexibility on the right.
Second choice

Distillate or live resin?

This decides how the vape tastes and how hard it hits. Distillate is refined to 85 to 95 percent THC, smooth and consistent, and the better value. Live resin keeps the plant's terpenes, tastes more like real flower, tests lower and costs more.

If you are not sure, start with distillate. It is the most forgiving oil to learn on. Read the full comparison if you want the detail.

Five things to check

Every legal California vape has to carry the same information. Learn to read it and you will never overpay for a weak cart again.

  1. 1Batch THC

Not the strain name, the tested number for this batch. It is printed on the label.

  2. 2Oil type

Distillate, live resin, cured resin or rosin. If it does not say, assume distillate.

  3. 3Size

Half gram or full gram. A full gram at the same price is twice the value.

  4. 4Test date

Fresher is better. Oil thickens and terpenes fade over months.

  5. 5Hardware

Ceramic coils taste cleaner than cotton. A charging port on an all-in-one is a plus.

Buying the cheapest half gram on the menu and calling it a deal.

Better way

Compare price per full gram and batch THC. A $20 full gram at 90 percent beats a $15 half gram at 75 every time.

Good questions

Quick answers

What is the best weed vape for beginners?

A 1 gram distillate all-in-one. It comes charged, there is nothing to attach, and the oil is smooth and consistent. Take one small pull and wait 10 to 15 minutes.

Are all-in-one vapes better than cartridges?

They are simpler. An all-in-one has the battery built in and works out of the box. A 510 cartridge needs a separate battery but lets you swap oils and costs a little less per refill.

What should I look for on a vape box?

The batch THC percentage, the oil type, the size in grams, the test date and the hardware. California labels carry all of this.

How much should a 1 gram vape cost?

In San Diego a distillate full gram usually runs $20 to $45 at regular price and often under $15 on sale. Live resin and rosin cost more.

Which Legacy Genetix vape should I try first?

Blue Dream if you want a bright, easy daytime strain, Gelato OG if you want to wind down. All six are 1 gram, 90 percent plus THC, and sold only at Wellgreens.
