Cart not hitting? Here is the fix
Nine times out of ten the cart is fine. It is cold, clogged or the battery is off. Work down the list.
Of "dead" carts are a clog, cold oil or a battery issue. All fixable at home.
Find your problem first
Do not start poking at the mouthpiece. Match what you are seeing to the row below, then jump to the fix. Most of these take under five minutes.
| What you notice | Likely cause | Jump to |
|---|---|---|
| Tight pull, little or no vapor | Clogged airway or cold, thick oil | Unclog it |
| Light blinks when you pull | Low battery or bad connection | Battery and connection |
| Gurgles, oil on your lips | Flooded coil | Flooded coil |
| Burnt or chemical taste | Burnt coil or empty cart | Burnt coil |
| Nothing at all, no light | Battery off or dead | Battery and connection |
How to unclog a vape cart
Clogs happen when oil cools and thickens in the narrow airway, or when condensation builds up in the mouthpiece. Heat and a gentle dry pull clear almost all of them.
- 1Warm it
Hold the cart in your closed hand for two minutes, or rub it between your palms. Never use a lighter or a hair dryer on high.
- 2Preheat
If your battery has a preheat (usually click twice), run it once. This softens the oil at the coil.
- 3Dry pull
With the battery off, take a few gentle pulls without firing. This draws oil out of the airway.
- 4Clear the mouthpiece
Use a toothpick or an unfolded paper clip to clear the hole in the mouthpiece. Go slowly, do not push oil back down.
- 5Try again
A short, gentle pull. If it hits, keep pulls short so it does not re-clog.
When the light blinks
A blink is the battery talking. Three to ten blinks usually means low battery or a short. A blink that comes only when the cart is attached means the connection is the problem, not the cart.
Screwing the cart on as tight as it will go.
Snug, then back it off a hair. The center pin needs to float to make contact.
Gurgling or spitting
A flooded coil means oil got into the airway, usually from long hard pulls, leaving the cart on its side or heat. Hold it upright and take a few gentle dry pulls with the battery off to clear the air path. Blow gently through a tissue over the mouthpiece if it keeps spitting. Then keep pulls short.
If it still gurgles after that, the cart may be overfilled or the seal has failed. Bring it back to the store with the receipt.
When it is really dead
A burnt taste that does not clear after a short rest usually means the coil has scorched the oil, or the cart is empty and the coil is dry. There is no fix for a burnt coil. If the cart is nearly empty, that is just the end. If it is still mostly full and tastes burnt, take it back; licensed stores will usually swap a faulty cart.

Quick answers
Why is my cart not hitting?
Most often the oil is cold and thick, the airway is clogged with condensation, or the battery is low or not making contact. Warm the cart in your hand, take a few gentle dry pulls, check the battery, and back the cart off a quarter turn.
How do I unclog a vape cart?
Warm it in your closed hand for two minutes, run the preheat if your battery has one, take a few gentle pulls with the battery off, and clear the mouthpiece hole with a toothpick. Then take a short pull.
Why is my vape pen blinking?
Blinking usually means low battery or a bad connection. Charge it, clean the center pin with a little rubbing alcohol, and make sure the cart is snug but not overtightened.
Why does my cart taste burnt?
Either the coil scorched the oil from long hot pulls, or the cart is nearly empty and the coil is dry. Rest it and take shorter pulls. If it is still mostly full and tastes burnt, return it.
Can a clogged cart be saved?
Almost always. Heat from your hand, a preheat cycle and gentle dry pulls clear the vast majority of clogs within a few minutes.
